This delightful library bookcase was made in Melbourne by Sam Yick. A document I found places him at his Little Lonsdale premises in 1910/1912 and that he had 17 employees. A grid in the Melbourne CBD, including Little Lonsdale St, was the centre for furniture makers in Melbourne, consisting predominantly of a mix of European and Chinese furniture makers.
- solid oak timber construction
- circa 1920’s
- 2 glass display doors with blind bases
- complete & matching loop handles
- 2 locks, 1 key
- 3 height adjustable timber shelves (removable)
- shaped bracket feet
- makers label; Sam Yick
Condition overview; in good condition, relative to its age, there are no cracks in the glass and both the doors and locks work well. As expected on a used piece of this vintage, it displays general wear, knock and surface (including to the top).
Dimensions; 1175mm wide x 350mm deep x 1275mm high (excluding backing board; 1245mm high). Internal depth; 300mm deep.
